Let’s talk about Smoothies!

Healthy smoothies seem to be the latest craze, but why?

With the warm weather heating up here in Perth a delicious cold and healthy smoothie is the perfect way to nourish our body. Read more to learn how to get the best health benefits from smoothies, some great recipes and health advice.

14Why are smoothies so fantastic? This is because you’re gaining all of those beautiful nutrients in a quick and compact way. Smoothies should be easy and fun to prepare not a drag. The best tip to creating quick and easy smoothies is to cut and prepare your ingredients when you have a spare hour or so free during the week. Place your fruit pieces in individual freezer bags according to each smoothie recipe. Now when it comes time for a healthy smoothie hit you’re good to go, just add a bit of water, yoghurt or whatever the recipe calls for. Otherwise be creative and add your favourite condiments.

Kids LOVE smoothies! Don’t buy those ‘fruit’ juices loaded with refined sugars. Promote a healthy childhood for our kids to help them grow big and strong. Make smoothies fun, include your child in the preparation process. Let them put the ingredients in the blender (with adult supervision) and allow them to watch the colours blend together.

15Smoothies are a great way to hide those fruits and vegetables our children and we… refuse to eat! Mixed with ones we love we won’t be able to taste any we usually can’t digest alone.

TIP: When trying mainly green smoothies load the blender with ice! It will make them much easier to drink – Try your first green smoothie by sipping slowly, they’re loaded with a variety of flavours we may not be used to.
