Which type of Class is best for me?

DMA clinical Pilates is suitable for people of all physical conditions and most medical conditions. All DMA clinical Pilates programs are individualised programs tailored to meet each client’s personal needs. The Fitness Pilates programs are suitable for persons with no know health issues that will effect participation in a general exercise program such as back, neck or shoulder pain or other medical conditions. If you are unsure, please book a Pilates initial consultation and your physiotherapist will make a recommendation.

How often should I attend classes?

The more often you attend, the faster you will achieve results. It is recommended that no less than two sessions per week, and three sessions for optimal health. Our Pilates programs are unique in that they are low impact and incorporates upper body, trunk and lower body exercises all at once. As such it is not required to have a rest day between sessions.

What should I wear/bring?

You need to wear comfortable clothes for exercising. We recommend wearing pants (no shorter than knee length) for men and women and a t-shirt or fitted top that you are comfortable wearing whilst rolling up and down. We wear grip socks when using the Pilates equipment and when performing mat exercises. Socks are required for hygiene reasons and can be purchased at our studio if desired. Please bring a towel to all sessions, otherwise a towel can be hired for a nominal laundry fee.

Can I do Pilates when pregnant?

Yes, Pilates is an excellent and safe form of exercise during pregnancy. It is extremely important that the DMA clinical Pilates is the chosen format as not all Pilates exercises in the fitness Pilates program are suitable during pregnancy. Your individualised DMA clinical Pilates program will be tailed to your specific needs. Post natal Pilates is also excellent to assist with retraining the core muscles and pelvic floor.

Is Pilates for men?

Joseph Hubertus Pilates, the creator of Pilates, was a man. Men are welcome at all of our classes and will be amazed at the benefits they will see, no matter their fitness level. Many celebrity sportsmen including football players, golfers, swimmers and tennis players use Pilates to improve their “core” control to improve their game. We also see a number of men recovering from sports or occupational injuries as well as men wanting to use Pilates to improve their flexibility and to lose weight.

Can I claim under my private health insurance ancillary cover?

All DMA clinical Pilates sessions including initial consultation, one-on-one, two-on-one and DMA clinical Pilates classes can be claimed to the extent that your policy provides for physiotherapy services. Thanks to our HICAPS claiming system, we can make an immediate claim to your insurance company and you only need to make the gap payment. Please contact your particular health insurance company for more details if you are unsure.
Fitness Pilates classes are considered general fitness classes and are not claimable from private health funds. This is true even though all of our classes are taken by university qualified physiotherapists and exercise physiologists. This is reflected in the price of these classes. Introductory Fitness Pilates sessions conducted one-on-one with a physiotherapist or exercise physiologist are claimable.

What is the Cancellation Policy

Classes pre-booked online, on the phone or in person require 24-hours notice to cancel. Failure to provide 24-hours notice will result in the full class fee being charged.

Does 4 Life Physiotherapy or 4 Life Exercise Physiology take classes other than pilates?

Yes, 4 Life Physiotherapy has approximately 20 other classes each week other than DMA Clinical Pilates and Fitness Pilates Classes. These programs include weight loss classes, Tai Chi for Arthritis Classes, Osteoporosis Classes, 1-on-1 and 2-on-1 personal training sessions, Diabetes management classes, among others.
