Orthotics

At 4 Life Physiotherapy, our expert clinicians have extensive experience in treating foot pain, lower limb disorders and low back problems with the use of custom made orthotics. Our Orthotics are developed using the very latest in dynamic and functional force plate technology so that you get the very best support available during activity when you need it the most.

Orthotics are specialised devices made of rubber (soft) or flexible plastic (semi rigid), used to support the arch of the foot. They sit comfortably inside your shoe, boot or sandal, supporting the natural arched structure of your feet. They may be full length, such as in a sporting shoe, or be modified to suit any type of shoe you wear on a regular basis.

Our Orthotics can be used to treat:

  • Tired / aching feet or calf muscles
  • Heel or arch pain including plantar fasciitis
  • Achilles tendon pain
  • Shin Splints
  • Ankle pain
  • Flat (pronated) or excessively high (supinated) foot arches
  • Painful calluses and corns on the soles of feet
  • Knee, hip and lower back pain caused by poor foot posture and lower limb biomechanics

The orthotics prescribed by the Physiotherapists at 4 Life Physiotherapist are custom made for each individual foot, and are specifically designed to support your feet in a more functionally effective position. The support and realignment achieved when utilizing custom orthotics will alleviate stress through the joints and soft tissue, allowing your feet to provide a solid base from which the rest of the body can operate.

Gait Scan

When you book an appointment to see one of our expert therapists, we will take a detailed history of your condition, after which we will conduct a thorough examination of the problem area/s. We will then perform a digital biomechanical exam using our state of the art Gait Scan pressure pad technology and software, allowing our physiotherapists to exactly determine what the underlying contributing factors are to your problem and hence find the best possible solution. This thorough examination is the only way to precisely determine the functional and dynamic pressures generated by your feet, allowing us to achieve the best possible outcome for you.

If your presenting problem is found to be due to poor foot posture, then a supportive and comfortable custom orthotic can be easily produced using our 3D pressure pad analysis, without the mess and fuss of the older plaster cast moulding, giving you the best chance of rectifying the problem and eliminating your pain. Our years of experience in resolving foot related pain allows us to give you additional expert advice regarding correct footwear, and prescribe exercises to quicken the realignment process and fast track your rehabilitation, getting you back to what you love doing as soon as possible.
